I can’t say the Mustang was a bad car, but I nearly doubled the money I had into it and it needed enough little nickel and dime stuff that I just couldn’t do at my apartment, nor could I do any of the modifications I bought the car to do. What will replace it? Hopefully we’ll find out in a couple hours. Meanwhile, work progresses on the Jaguar as I believe I have located a suitable replacement engine out of a rolled-over 1995 Suburban. The engine will get my heads, accessories, and intake manifold. New headgaskets, valve lapping, and valve stem seals will happen as well. Hopefully I will have the Jag up and running before winter.

I’m driving it with the engine knocking now since I’ve decided not to rebuild it. Damn Jaguar nailed the chassis dynamics on this thing. It drives so *nice*. It isn’t harsh or crashy over bumps, it’s definitely leaning to the “stiff” side but still not uncomfortable. And no dead zone in the steering rack, pretty prompt turn in... ugh. So good. Also torque. Torque is nice.

Why not find a 97+ Vortec Roller motor start with? it makes no sense to use a TBI motor...

He’s only using it for the short block. TBI engines still got roller cams, IIRC. There’s no point to going with an L31 if you aren’t using the heads.

L31's are the best production heads ever. Why wouldn’t you use them?

TBI motors had roller provisions, but not roller cams.

but if you’re just using the shortblock, then you’re going to spend the difference on gaskets, where as if you can find a complete running Vortec motor your only expense is a vortec intake, or you could drill yours differently.

I have a gasket kit already. If the burban is 2WD I’m going to try nabbing the transmission and entire wiring harness and using the TBI. It would solve a lot of the issues I’m having with my carb in such a tight space as the Jag’s engine bay (vertical space, that is)

That was a great save tho. It will live on with a new owner! I have a soft spot for fox body stangs having owned a 4 cylinder 86 vert and v8 84 gt....plus a 79 fairmont futura with the smooooth inline 6 and very 70s plaid brown interior.
